Police offer free rides to holiday drinkers
Offer not valid for those who get behind wheel
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is making sure residents have no excuse to drink and drive this holiday season.
As they have done in years past, the Sheriff’s Office is offering local residents a free ride home if they consume alcohol this holiday season. All a resident has to do is give the Sheriff’s Office a call at (985)783-6807 and a deputy will pick them up and take them home.
"Because of this service, there is no excuse to drink and drive and shame on those that don’t take advantage of it," Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said. "This is one less reason a person has to get behind the wheel after they’ve been drinking."
This offer is good for local residents only. The Sheriff’s Office will only pick up people who realize ahead of time that they have had too much to drink before they get behind the wheel.
"If someone is stopped by the police or involved in an accident, the offer is no longer valid," Yoes said. "If that’s the case, their ride will be to jail and their vehicle will be impounded."
The offer is good until New Year’s Day.
