Mimosa Park Elementary's Veterans Day

Matis is the cafeteria manager at Mimosa Park Elementary. In 1985 as a junior in Hahnville High School she joined the 3673rd Vehicle Maintenance Unit of the Louisiana Army National Guard in New Orleans. She spent eight years in and became a veteran in 1991 after engaging in Operation Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia. She became a food service Sergeant during her military service.
Matis has been a Veteran for 23 years now and said she is proud to say that her son Jake joined the United States Marines in 2006.
