Philip A. Matherne, 60, passed away on Aug. 29.
A native of Des Allemands and a resident of Marrero, Matherne was the owner of Mary Ann’s Floral Boutique.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda C. Matherne; sons, Joshua Paul Matherne and Jacob Michael Matherne; two daughter’s, Meloney Lalonde and husband Jessy and Johnetta Ann Matherne; brothers, Leroy and Leslie Matherne; sisters Mary Champagne and Carolyn Ford and two grandchildren, Mary and Kylan. Services will be held at Harvest Time Fellowship Church in Harvey on Oct. 6.

Dr. Rodney Lafon boiled down his decision to announce his retirement last month to a simple factor. With 40 years accumulated in the school system he had come to a point in his career where he would make nearly the same yearly salary as a retiree as if he chose to continue working.
