Mimosa Park Elememtary students take part in meet and greet
![]() |
Elementary classes across St. Charles Parish have daily morning meetings where classroom students read messages, greet classmates, work on team building games and share news from home. The practice is part of the parish's "Responsive Classroom" model.
Students help develop classroom roles, establish routines and learn how to work in a community setting. MPE, a school of approximately 200 students, took the traditional classroom meeting to the next level recently.
Teachers and students from over 20 homerooms filled the school’s cafeteria for a school-wide morning meeting. Everyone from the school's administration to enrichment educators joined first and second teachers and students for a whole school gathering.
The community building event was designed to help establish school goals for the year, including reviewing last year's challenging areas like bus referrals for not following rules. Students were challenged to see if they could lower challenge areas while lifting academic achievement. In the picture on the right, students across grade levels greeted each other and shared experiences. Students at the school were excited about the event and look forward to next month's gathering.
"I bet we get the bus goal," 6-year-old Fabian Carter announced. "We have to stay in our seats and talk quietly. That's easy!"
