Back-to-school prep event
DESTREHAN - The Jerusalem Temple will hold a back-to-school preparation event on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The event is meant to help children of all ages prepare to go back to school.
The event will offer free food, health screenings, information, resources and giveaways.
The first 525 participants who pre-register by Monday, July 30 will receive free backpacks and free school supplies.
A parent or guardian must be present with students to receive the supplies.

Legislators vow to help parish fight huge insurance increases - 536 views
Parish President V.J. St. Pierre, along with eight other parish presidents and representatives from five other parishes, visited Washington, D.C. to talk to officials about the potential spike in local flood insurance premiums should large portions of the Biggert-Waters Act be allowed to take effect in October.
