Police say that a 46-year-old Norco man allegedly shot his wife in the head with a shotgun before shooting himself in the face with the same weapon yesterday.

Both the husband and wife are currently in the intensive care unit at University Hospital.

Deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Goodhope Street home of Otto Barrera Jr. at 6:12 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered both Barrera and his wife with gunshot wounds and the two were rushed to the hospital.

Barrera will be charged with the attempted murder of his wife.
