And even though the Parish will officially celebrate its bicentennial birthday on March 31, events to commemorate the milestone will take place throughout the year.
"At the Nov. 6 council meeting we will adopt a proclamation and kick off bicentennial events," Faucheux, chairman of the St. Charles Parish Bicentennial Committee, told the Herald-Guide.
The committee consists of 15 members, and Faucheux says they are in the planning stages.
Here’s a preview of bicentennial events that already have been planned:
Thursday, Dec. 7 - Kick off celebration and tree lighting ceremony at West Bank Bridge Park.
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - Annual Student Art Exhibit at St. Charles Parish School Board central office from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday, March 30, 2007 - Bicentennial Gala at Destrehan Plantation.
Saturday, March 31, 2007 - Birthday celebration at St. Charles Parish Courthouse.
Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 - Closing celebration and Norco Christmas parade.
