Driver dies after head-on collision on Hwy. 3127
A woman from the Dominican Republic was killed last Tuesday when her vehicle ran into oncoming traffic on LA 3127 in St. Charles Parish.
According to State Police, 51-year-old Fellita Rosa-German was traveling northbound on LA 3127 around the 5900 block in her Ford Focus. For unknown reasons, the Focus crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane, where it struck a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Lonnie Chiasson. After the impact, the Silverado came to rest in the southbound lane where it was struck again by a 2007 Toyota 4Runner driven by 34-year-old Courtnie Heltz.
Rosa-German, who was wearing her seatbelt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office. Chiasson, who was also wearing his seatbelt, was transported to East Jefferson Hospital with minor injuries.
Heltz was not injured in the crash.
Investigating troopers report that alcohol impairment is unknown at this time, but fatigue may have been a contributor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
