Garrett Fortin and Meghan O’Quinn – National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists

Fortin has participated in the Louisiana Literary rally for the past three years, placing second in US History in his junior, fifth in World History in his sophomore year, and second in geometry in his freshman year. He also placed first at the Louisiana Social Studies Fair competition in the area of political science and placed first in the at Regional Science Fair competition – all in his freshman year. Fortin attended the National Student Leadership Conference in his sophomore year and attended Louisiana Boys State last summer where he was nominated to Secretary of State. Fortin also serves his community as a boy scout.
Meghan O’Quinn is the daughter of Dawn and Robert O’Quinn of Destrehan. She is the honors secretary of the DHS National Honor Society, captain of the swim team, and a member of Mu Alpha Theta. O’Quinn also boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. In her freshman year, O’Quinn placed fourth at the district Literary Rally in Algebra II. She placed seventh in Advanced Math at the district Literary Rally in her sophomore year. O’Quinn has been on the honor roll throughout all of her high school career and was selected “Honorsville Student of the Month” in her freshman, sophomore and junior years.
