Dear Editor
The implication of education reform can be found as near as our local St. Charles Public Schools. The products emerging from the interactive media class at the Satellite Center are stellar!
The St. Charles Museum and Historical Association received a grant from Shell-Motiva to establish a museum showcasing our parish’s history. The donation was timely as it coincided with our organization’s publication of St. Charles Parish- a Pictorial History.
However, we soon realized the drawbacks of maintaining and operating a concrete facility. We therefore opted for a unique approach using modern technology to create a "virtual museum".
The process which began with our search for someone well-versed in web development led us to the Satellite Center and delivered us into the competent hands of Brian Gough and the students enrolled in his fall class.
This unparalleled task was brought to fruition through individual student contributions coming together in a concerted team effort. The intricacies of division of labor and communication skills were evidenced in the presentation of the finished product. This group of young people functioned as a cohesive unit to be envied by any professional agency.
Our governor’s vision of education excellence is exemplified in our home parish. This little known entity will manifest itself when the virtual museum is unveiled in the near future.
Our Board’s special thanks go to the student web team, their instructor, and Stephanie Steib, who led us to this pot of gold.
Rita Carlson, President
