Congratulations to Hahnville High School science teacher Mary Hoffmann and her environmental science classes for being awarded a grant from Entergy Nuclear and Waterford 3 for $7,800.

This grant will be used to construct a greenhouse for growing coastal vegetation which will include trees and grasses that will be taken and planted in areas where coastal erosion has occurred in our region.

This will provide students with a life-long lesson on the importance of preserving our coast line and our heritage.

Also benefiting from this grant will be April Black’s classes. They will be growing their own vegetables and herbs that will be used in her food service program at HHS. This will show the students the value of producing and harvesting their own vegetation.

Art classes will help beautify the greenhouse area and Alex Romero’s wood work II class will be constructing the greenhouse and building tables to be used in the green house. The construction will begin mid-January.
