PrintNEW ORLEANS - Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the New Orleans Museum of Art with a free day of music, family activities, exhibitions and more. The event starts at 10 a.m. on Dec. 16 and lasts until 5 p.m. on Dec. 17. The 31-hour opening is free and open to the public. For a schedule of events, visit www.noma.org.

Dr. Rodney Lafon boiled down his decision to announce his retirement last month to a simple factor. With 40 years accumulated in the school system he had come to a point in his career where he would make nearly the same yearly salary as a retiree as if he chose to continue working.
