Dorothy "Dot" Durapau, 80, passed away on Dec. 4, 2011 at her home. She was a native of Hahnville and a resident of New Sarpy for the past 60 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Richard "Black" Durapau Sr., three daughters: Donna Benoit (Jerry), Debby Durapau (Issac New) and Lisa Durapau (Manuel Bautista); two sons, Richard "Rap" Durapau Jr. (Danelle) and Dennis Durapau Sr. (Sheila), brothers, Gerald Nicholas (Shirley) and Roy Nicholas (Norma), sister, Minnie Verdun (Jack), 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Nicholas and Phelonise Friloux, siblings, Sidney Nicholas, Erna May Keller, Vivian Verdin and Earl Nicholas; granddaughter, Kassie Lynn Federer, and great-granddaughter, Samantha Kaye Benoit.
Services were held Dec. 8 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan with Fr. Tom McCann officiating. Burial followed in the St. Charles Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale St., Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be sent at www.hcalexanderfuneralhome.com.

Court tosses out 75-year sentence - 975 views
A 43-year-old man who was sentenced to 75 years in jail for molestation of a juvenile and sexual battery will be retried after his sentence was thrown out by an appellate court due to a technicality.
