Hahnville Tigers: All-District 1st Team

Truston Jones

Offensive Lineman

All season Hahnville was a run first team and senior offensive lineman Truston Jones was a big reason why. The Tigers often ran behind the 5'11, 285-pound guard as they pounded opponents for four quarters on their way to a District 8-5A championship.

Ernest Thompson

Running Back

Hahnville junior running back Ernest Thompson put up some big numbers in his first year as a starter for the Tigers. Thompson rushed for 863 yards on 143 carries, which equates to just over six yards per carry. Thompson also scored 13 touchdowns for the Tigers.

Jerqwinick Sandolph

Defensive Back

Hahnville senior Jerqwinick Sandolph moved to safety this season and made a big impact. Sandolph finished the regular season with 55 solo tackles, 19 assists, six tackles for loss, three interceptions, 13 pass breakups and a punt return for a touchdown. For his efforts, Sandolph was also recognized as the defensive MVP of the district.

James Poree

Defensive Lineman

Hahnville senior defensive lineman James Poree was a quarterback's worst nightmare during the 2011 season. Poree recorded 12 sacks to lead the team, while also finishing with 42 solo tackles and 11 tackles for loss.

Anthony Mott

Hahnville junior linebacker Anthony Mott was impressive in his first season as a starter for the Tigers. Mott finished the regular season with 39 solo tackles, 12 assists, two sacks, three fumble recoveries and eight pass breakups.

Lou Valdin

Head Coach

Hahnville was picked to finish in fifth place in District 8-5A before the season started due to the fact that Head Coach Lou Valdin had to replace several longtime starters on both sides of the ball. Though Hahnville began the year with a 1-3 record, Valdin rallied the team down the stretch as Hahnville won five of their last six games to claim a share of the district championship.

Emily Charles, 21, had begun to drive herself and five longtime friends from a Luling hotel to Southern California on Feb. 18 when she rear-ended a vehicle and lost control of her SUV at the intersection of Louisiana highways 3127 and 3142 near Dow Chemical Co. in Killona. Charles hit the brakes, but could not avoid clipping the back of the car.
“After that, I don’t even know what happened. We must have flipped,” Charles said.
