Book Review: “Beastly”

"Beastly" is a novel written by Alex Flinn. It is a modern-day telling of the classic story of Beauty and the Beast. Set in New York City, this story is about finding true love and learning who real friends are and who are not.

Flinn portrays the main character, Kyle, as a perfect example of the popular kid stereotype. His whole life is about to change.

He does not believe in witches. However, Kendra, a girl in one of his classes, is a witch. She thinks he is an ugly person on the inside. She takes it upon herself to teach Kyle a lesson that he will never forget.

He has only two close friends. They isolate themselves from the rest of the world by living in a rather deserted part of town. Kyle has two years to find true love and learn that looks are not everything. Will things go back to the way they were or will he stay a beast forever?

"Beastly" is one of my all-time favorite books. I personally love fairytales, so I loved how this story could be transformed into a book for teenagers. I would highly recommend this book for young adults who enjoy paranormal fiction.
