Destrehanís Will Sirmon, who will be a junior next season, is one of three quarterbacks vying to fill the void left by the graduation of Donovan Isom. After falling just short of a trip to the Class 5A state championship game, the Destrehan Wildcats returned to the football field this month to begin preparations for what should be another successful year on the gridiron.

DHS tailback Will Matthews scored the team's only touchdown of the night. The Destrehan Wildcats' hopes for another state championship were dashed when they fell to the Acadiana Rams in the semi-final round of the playoffs.

Destrehan receiver Kirk Merritt got a few carries out of the backfield against Ruston and made them count, rushing for a 69-yard touchdown in the third quarter. After rolling up more than 300 yards on the ground in their 34-7 win against Ruston, the Destrehan Wildcats advance to the Class 5A quarterfinals where they will face off against Dutchtown for the second time this season.

Destrehan and Hahnville both advanced to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs after a pair of impressive victories. The Wildcats destroyed Terrebonne 44-0 as most expected, but the Tigers pulled off a huge upset by knocking off No. 9 Ouachita 42-25.
