Karr cruises past Destrehan

Karr cruises past Destrehan
The Destrehan Wildcats started fast tonight leading 10-0 in the second quarter, but miscues and the Edna Karr defense proved too much for them as they faded in the second half and fell 25-10.

The Wildcats’ second drive produced a 23-yard field goal from Daniel Cimino. Two drives later, wide receiver Rickey Jefferson took a handoff and weaved his way through the Karr defense for a 92-yard touchdown. But without the injured Kevin Smith, the Wildcat running game was snuffed out after their early success.

Karr’s defense limited the Wildcats to just 259 yards from scrimmage and held them to just 10 total yards between Jefferson’s touchdown in the second quarter and the start of the Wildcats’ last drive of the game, late in the fourth quarter.

During that time frame, the Cougars also intercepted two passes and blocked three consecutive Wildcat punts, the first resulting in a touchdown and the second in a safety.

However, the Destrehan defense showed flashes of brilliance of its own at different times during the night. Defensive back Spencer Bentley intercepted a pass, defensive lineman Bryan Singleton recorded a sack and the defense as a whole kept Karr out of the end zone twice when they were inside the 10-yard line.

Overall, quarterback Taylor Dunn completed 17 of 33 passes for 134 yards while De’Ante’ Armstrong led the receivers with 4 catches for 70 yards.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-2 on the season as they look ahead to the John Ehret Patriots next Friday.
