NFLís Reed returns to Destrehan, presents ball
Former Destrehan and NFL star Ed Reed presents a gold football to Destrehan football coach Stephen Robicheaux.
Ed Reed smiled broadly as he acknowledged the crowd at Destrehan Friday night, the someday NFL Hall of Famer beaming with pride.

As part of the NFL’s nationwide Super Bowl High School Honor Roll initiative, Reed returned to his alma mater to present a commemorative Wilson gold football to DHS coach Stephen Robicheaux and his Wildcats. The NFL program sees every player or head coach who was on an active Super Bowl roster return to their high school and present a gold football. Nearly 3,000 players and head coaches and more than 2,000 high schools will be recognized.

Reed, who retired earlier this year, helped lead the Baltimore Ravens to a 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. In that game, Reed intercepted Colin Kaepernick to record his ninth career postseason interception.

The multi-time All-Pro said returning to Destrehan gave him an “awesome feeling.” He also said he was impressed with Destrehan’s new football facilities; on the same day, the still undefeated Wildcats celebrated the opening of their new fieldhouse and weight room.†

“The kids are going to be better (because of) this,” Reed said. “It’s different than when I was here, for sure. It’s just so great to be back here with coach Robicheaux and everyone else.

“These kids out here are the future. There are some future NFL guys out here tonight.”

The gold football was the first of two the school will receive this year. Jeremy Parquet, also a Destrehan alumnus and who won a Super Bowl ring with the Pittsburgh Steelers, will also return to the school later this year to present a ring.†
