Destrehanís Jefferson commits to LSU

Destrehanís Jefferson commits to LSU
Rickey Jefferson
Destrehan High Schoolís Rickey Jefferson will continue his football career at LSU after committing to the Tigers on Sunday.

Jefferson, who is rated as a four-star athlete by Rivals.com, committed as a cornerback for the Tigers but has starred for Destrehan on both sides of the ball. As a sophomore in 2010, Jefferson finished with 300 yards rushing and caught 18 passes for 327 yards. He scored seven touchdowns on the season.

Jefferson only played in five games during his junior season before suffering an ACL injury that sidelined him for the rest of the year. Destrehan head coach Stephen Robicheaux said the 6-foot star has recovered from the injury and will be 100 percent when his senior season begins in August.

He added that LSU will be a great fit for Jefferson, who is the younger brother of former Tiger quarterback Jordan Jefferson.

"Itís a great match. They are getting a great player and a good kid," Robicheaux said. "He has been around the LSU program for four years and this was a situation where he really wanted to be. When you are around that type of institution for so long, it really grows on you.

"Itís a great place for him to play."

Robicheaux said that Jeffersonís ability to line up at so many different positions is what sets him apart from other players.

"He can really play any position on the field – offense, defense and special teams," Robicheaux said. "I think Rickey can be as good as anybody. He works hard, gets better everyday and sets high goals for himself."

Jefferson chose the Tigers over several other offers that included Alabama, Florida State, USC, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Houston and Tennessee.
