Flood insurance act reinstates grandfathering
Sen. David Vitter accepted a container of keys from Lisa Taylor as her husband Robert spoke out against the Biggert-Waters Act to a crowd that gathered in the Taylor residence driveway in May 2013. Nearly a year after St. Charles Parish residents were informed that local flood insurance rates would rise tens of thousands of dollars due to the Biggert-Waters Act, a bill that will reverse much of the damage has passed the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate and is now awaiting a signature from President Barack Obama.

The Destrehan Lady Wildcats lost only their second game all season when they fell to the Mt. Carmel Cubs 69-60 in the 5A state championship game.

Police say speed trap law would have no effect on parish
Two laws have been proposed concerning speed traps in the 2014 Louisiana legislature, however, law enforcement agencies in St. Charles Parish do not believe the laws will have any local effect should they pass.

The Hahnville Lady Tigers (3-1) cruised past Assumption and Dominican in the Catfish Classic over the weekend, but suffered their first loss of the season to Live Oak.
Lady Wildcats go 1-2 in softball’s Catfish Classic

The Destrehan Lady Wildcats cruised past Belle Chasse but lost to both Mt. Carmel and Ursuline to finish with a 1-2 record in the Catfish Classic, which matched up some of the top teams from around the state at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling.

•Jamin Tobias, 40, of 57 Dunleith Drive in Destrehan, was arrested on Feb. 27 and charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell methamphetamine, suspended driver’s license and as a fugitive from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
