FEMA will take Sunset Drainage levee into account in new flood maps
Should result in lower flood insurance rates
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced that St. Charles Parish is one of 25 parishes/counties nationwide to be selected for a pilot project that will use a different formulation to calculate local flood risks by taking into account locally constructed levees that do not meet federal standards.

Parish receives millions from state for local projects
Funding for the West Bank Hurricane Protection levee, as well as other parish projects, got a boost this year from the state legislature.

Police: Scam artist used School Board’s name to purchase laptops
A St. Rose man, who police believe was part of a multiple-parish scam operation, used the St. Charles Parish School Board’s name to purchase several laptops that he would pick up at Fed Ex, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Stiles
Tommy Ray Stiles, 70, was born in Baton Rouge on April 4, 1943 and died on Friday, July 12 at his Bayou Gauche penthouse. He was a United States Coast Guard veteran.
